Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect from my first pelvic floor session?
Your first visit is all about understanding your symptoms, goals, and how we can help. We’ll start with a comfortable, judgment-free conversation about your medical history and concerns. Next, we’ll do a full-body assessment to check your posture, core strength, and movement patterns to see how everything is working together. If appropriate and with your consent, we may also assess your pelvic floor muscles to check for tightness, weakness, or coordination issues—this step is always optional and at your comfort level. By the end of your visit, you’ll have a personalized treatment plan, including exercises, hands-on techniques, and lifestyle recommendations to help you feel better. We’re here to support you every step of the way—let’s get you back to feeling your best!
What should I wear?
Wear something comfortable and easy to move in, like workout clothes or loose-fitting attire. Since we may assess your posture, core strength, and overall movement, leggings, joggers, or shorts with a t-shirt or tank top work well. Most importantly, wear whatever makes you feel at ease and relaxed—your comfort is our priority!
Why therapy at home?
Your home is where you feel most comfortable—it's where you live, rest, and recharge. With in-home physical therapy, staying consistent with your exercises becomes easier because you’re learning how to incorporate them into your daily routine. There’s no need to arrange childcare or spend extra time traveling to appointments, giving you more time to focus on what matters most.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
In Tennessee, you do not need a doctor’s referral to start physical therapy. The state allows direct access, meaning you can see a physical therapist without a physician’s prescription.
How many fitness sessions do I need?
The number of pregnancy fitness sessions you need depends on your goals, fitness level, and any specific concerns you have. Most moms-to-be benefit from 1-2 sessions per week, allowing for consistent progress while adjusting to your body’s changes. Some may prefer weekly check-ins for guidance, while others might choose biweekly or monthly sessions for ongoing support.
Your plan will be tailored to your needs—whether you want to stay active, reduce pain, or prepare for birth. We’ll work together to create a schedule that feels right for you and keeps you feeling strong and confident throughout your pregnancy!
